People say it’s a small world, and I can attest to that! As a matter of fact, this small world played a big part in how I met Rhonda, our September cover model.

During this year’s trip to Sturgis, I decided to camp out with some of my riding buddies at a little out-of-the-way place in the Black Hills National Forest called Nemo’s Guest Ranch. Nemo sits at a crossroad about halfway between Sturgis, Deadwood and Rapid City. One morning while finishing breakfast at this little makeshift restaurant/office/general store that is within walking distance of our camp, I noticed this tall attractive blonde in a cowboy hat sitting at another table with a small group of bikers.

Always thinking of the magazine first, I thought how cool it would be to take a photo of her on my steel pony in front of this old livery stable that was just across the road from our camp. Always thinking of my health second, since she was sitting at a table with a group of bikers, and not knowing which one of them might be her overly-jealous husband or boyfriend packing a pearl handled six-shooter, I did what any other cowardly smart guy would do—I sent Patty, one of the girls from our table over to give her one of my Cycle Connections business cards and let her know that if she’d like to have her photo taken for our online motorcycle magazine, to stop by our camp after she finished breakfast and we’d snap a few shots.

As I paid my bill and left the building I figured that was probably the last I’d see of our little Nemo cowgirl. Just as I was getting ready to hop on my bike and head in to Sturgis I saw her walking cautiously up to our camp full of bikers with my business card in hand. After being directed my way, she walked up, introduced herself to me and said she’d be happy to pose for a few photos. I quickly pushed my bike in front of the livery stable had her climb aboard and took a few quick pics.

I thanked her for taking the time to model for me and told her that her photo would be published in our September issue. As she started to walk off, I asked her where she was from, and when she said Holt, Missouri, you could have seen my jaw hit the ground. I told her we were also from the Kansas City area and that once we got back home, if she ever wanted to model for our magazine to give me a call. Little did I know that a week later we would be meeting again to do a real photo shoot for our September issue!

If you'd like to meet Rhonda in person, get an autographed photo and have your photo taken with her, which will be published in our October 2005 issue, make sure to stop by the Cycle Connections People's Choice Ride-In Bike Show on Saturday, September 10 between noon and 4 p.m. or at the Lest They Be Forgotten, Wisdom-Clary Benefit Ride at St. Joe Harley-Davidson on Sunday, September 11 between 10 a.m. and noon. Lexie, our August 2005 cover model, will also be at St. Joe Harley-Davidson so you can get two models for the price of one!

Well, enough of my rambling about small worlds and things—let’s get to the interview!

CC: Rhonda, what is your occupation?
Rhonda: I’m in executive management.

CC: Do you have any hobbies other than motorcycling?
Rhonda:Yes. I enjoy reading, dancing and sports.

CC: Do you ride?
Rhonda: Only as a passenger. Next spring I am taking riding lessons and plan to buy my own bike.

CC: What is your dream bike?
Rhonda: Not sure yet. It depends on what I can handle.

CC: What is your most memorable riding experience?
Rhonda: Riding in South Dakota. It has ruined riding in Missouri because of the scenery!

CC: Which motorcycle rallies & events have you attended and which is your favorite?
Rhonda: I have been to Algona this year and Sturgis. WOW, what an experience Sturgis was!

CC: Do you have a favorite bike night location?
Rhonda: I like Stables in Kearney because a lot of my friends are there and that’s what it’s all about.

CC: Do you have any tattoos?
Rhonda: Not yet, but I plan to get an outdoors-type tattoo across my back.

CC: Do you prefer riding in a group or just one bike?
Rhonda: Either…I just love to ride.

CC: Who are some of your closest riding buddies?
Rhonda: My cousin, who is also my best friend, and her husband, because we like to see the same things and go to the same places.

CC: Thank you Rhonda, for being at Nemo's Guest Ranch at exactly the right time and for driving down from Holt for this photo shoot and interview.

I also wanted to note that after our photo shoot, Penny Sharp with Bikers for Babies® walked up and told me that Rhonda had signed her check over to Bikers for Babies®, which I had given her for modeling. I truly believe there are angels among us, if you just know where to look!
