Marine Corps Las Vegas 9th Annual Toys for Tots Motorcycle Run

Written by  November 30, 2015

A motorcycle run on Halloween? YES! If you’re in Vegas, it happens!

On October 31, 2015, 300+ riders showed up for the Marine Corps Las Vegas 9th Annual Toys for Tots Motorcycle Run. Marines brought out the “Big Truck” to haul all the toys. The American Legion Riders from Post 40 donated $250 worth of toys, and other motorcycle clubs, riders associations, and Independents also donated lots of toys.

The run started at Railroad Pass near Boulder City Nevada. The 1st stop was at the Hitching Post, the 2nd stop was at the Grand Teton Lodge, the 3rd stop was at Durango Lodge, and the final stop was the Leatherneck Club. Each stop had food and drink specials for the riders, and a delicious BBQ brisket dinner was served to the riders at the Leatherneck Club after the run. The Beau Hodges Band entertained the crowd at the end of the run, and the band was awesome!

L.J. Harness from Las Vegas Cadillac donated $1,500 to Toys for Tots, Deb Topham from Findlay Cadillac, donated $1,500, and Glen Lerner and Associates donated $500! Total proceeds from the event was $20,500! YES! $20,500! WOW! What a great fundraiser for Toys for Tots!

A Halloween costume contest was also held for the best Male Costume and the best Female Costume, and John Anderson, Vietnam Vet and recipient of the Navy Cross, Bronze Star, and 8 Purple Hearts, donated his personal leather jacket from 1965. The jacket was auctioned off and the money was donated to Toys for Tots!

Unfortunately, there was also some somber news at the event. Patrick “Pappy” Mahoney passed away on this day, and a celebratory toast was held in his honor. R.I.P. “Pappy!”

The Marine Riders Las Vegas were formed in 2002, and are very active in supporting Toys for Tots and other charitable events in the Las Vegas area. The Leatherneck Club supports the Marine Riders Las Vegas, Marine Corp League, Devil Pups, and Wounded Warrior Athletics. They have a huge collection of Marine Corps memorabilia, and a lot of the items are museum quality. It is quite a sight to see. The entire staff at the Leatherneck Club makes all Veterans and Patriotic Americans feel right at home! The food is spectacular, too!

So if you’re in Vegas, stop by the Leatherneck Club and check it out. The address is 4360 W. Spring Mountain Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89102.

The Marine Riders Las Vegas presented the $20,500 check to the Toys for Tots on Nov. 10, 2015, which is the Marine Corps birthday! Happy Birthday Marines! Semper Fi and thank you for keeping us safe!
