Biker Diva Trip to Hermann, Missouri

Written by  August 1, 2014

In 2012, Shawnee Cycle Plaza started a series of events called Biker Diva.  The intent was to encourage more women to ride motorcycles.  The events included things like Matchmaking:  Finding the Right Bike, The Relationship: Knowing your Bike From Top to Bottom and a Fashion Show called Look the Part.(emceed by Gary Amble). This year they are doing Biker Diva Sweet Rides to get ice cream, a trip to Hermann, Missouri and a Fashion Show in the fall. The money we make from our Biker Diva T-shirts goes to Susan G. Komen.

On June 28th, 2014, 20 women embarked on a motorcycle ride from Shawnee Cycle Plaza to Hermann, Missouri. The ride was over 430 miles. The ages ranged from 23 to 70. Friendships were formed and strengthened. The motorcycle riding skills were from new riders to highly experienced riders. The obstacles were weather, farm implements and crazy car drivers. We had a stop at Arris Pizza in Jefferson City, Missouri for lunch. The Greek styled pizza was amazing, and we found out that Arris Pizza is coming to Lenexa in the fall!

The ride and views on HWY 94 were breathtaking! There were some hairpin turns that all the riders handled like experts. We stayed at the Wine Valley Inn located in the heart of Hermann. It was comfortable and spacious with a back patio, which was great for relaxing after a long day. We rode the Hermann trolley to the wineries, one of which was the oldest winery in the US. This trip was empowering, fun and a lifetime experience. On to our next adventure, which is possibly a trip to Omaha.

Any females interested in learning to ride can check with their local community college.  Some of them even offer all women classes.
