Biker Diva 101 - The Fashion Show

Written by  October 1, 2012

The final event of a three part series entitled Biker Diva Motorcycle 101 was held on Thursday evening, September 6, 2012 at Shawnee Cycle Plaza. The free seminars cater towards women riders, and encourage attendees to “Get in touch with your inner Biker Diva!”

If you happened to miss our first two article, photos and video of the series entitled Matchmaker – Finding the Right Bike and The Relationship – Know your bike from top to bottom and end to end, was published in previous two issue, you can still check it out.

Just inside the front door, Biker Diva tank tops were available once again for only $15, with proceeds going to the Susan G Koman Kansas City Race for the Cure. There was also a very nice spread of snacks, and Michelle with Holy-Field Vineyard & Winery where there again offering free wine tasting.

This evening’s presentation was entitled “The Fashion Show – Look the part” and the showroom had been magically converted into a professional runway by Mike, Hal, and others, complete with sound and lighting. Doris Sarver greeted guests as they arrived, and introduced some of the evening’s special guests, which included Kevin Christensen with Tucker Rocky, who was instrumental in the coordination of the designs in the fashion show, as well as Candy with Studio two and more, who provided the model’s accessories. Doris then introduced owner Barry Bunner, before handing the microphone over to parts manager Jerry Nicholson, who in turn introduced his parts team Roger and Georgia.

Doris then introduced special guest and MC of the evening Gary Amble, who is a fellow motorcyclist, long-time Shawnee Cycle Plaza customer, and popular weatherman with KCTV5. Gary welcomed everyone, and told the crowd about his bike, which is a Yamaha Road Star that he bought from Shawnee Cycle Plaza back in 2002. Gary then went on to explain that since buying his bike, he’s logged more than 60,000 miles, and rides it every day to work in his suit. He explained how he likes to save gas, and that he finds riding very therapeutic. I knew that Gary rode, because he often mentions local motorcycle events while doing the weather; however, I had no idea he was that big of a motorcycle enthusiast!

Gary then went on to introduce all the models as they came out one at a time to do their runway walk and showcase all the latest fashions. Tonight’s models were Missy, Lauren, Sandra, Nancy, Jackie, Colleen, Sue, Rebecca, Christine, and Cheryl. In case you missed the event, or if you’d like to take another look at tonight’s fashions, make sure to check out our Biker Diva Motorcycle 101 – The Fashion Show video.

We had a blast covering all three seminars, and had an opportunity to meet some really great people. I’d like to once again thank Barry, Doris, and the entire Shawnee Cycle Plaza crew for their hospitality and for putting on these great events!
