Biker Diva Motorcycle 101 - Matchmaker at Shawnee Cycle Plaza - Shawnee, Kansas

Written by  August 1, 2012

On Thursday evening, July 12, 2012, Shawnee Cycle Plaza presented the first of a three part series entitled Biker Diva Motorcycle 101. The free seminars cater towards women riders, and encourage attendees to “Get in touch with your inner Biker Diva!”

The night’s presentation was called “Matchmaker – Finding the right bike.” Doris Sarver greeted guests as they arrived, and invited them to sign up for the free event and to help themselves to the snacks and desserts that were neatly setup on the showroom floor. Guests also received tickets for door prizes and free wine samples from Justin’s Discount Spirits, who had an actual wine bar setup in the showroom.

Biker Diva tank tops were available for only $15, with proceeds going to the Susan G Koman Kansas City Race for the Cure, which takes place on Sunday, August 12. These are really nice tanks, and for a great cause, so my wife and fellow Cycle Connections photographer Nichole just had to have one.

Hal Cason, set aside his normal finance duties to play DJ for the evening, and was in charge of the sound system. When it was time to get things started, Doris welcomed everyone and introduced owner Barry Bunner and the rest of the Shawnee Cycle Plaza team. After giving away some great door prizes, Doris handed the microphone over to Doug and Mike, who spent the rest of the evening explaining how to find just the perfect motorcycle. Doug and Mike invited guests to sit on several different types of bikes, including cruisers, sport bikes and off-road bikes, while explaining the features and benefits of each model.

The seminar was excellent, and very informative, and although I’ve been riding for over 43 years, I learned a few things I’d never really thought about before. In case you missed the event, or if you’d just like a refresher, make sure to check out our Biker Diva Motorcycle 101 – Matchmaker video we shot that night, which should help you get caught up!

We’re really looking forward to the next seminar on Thursday evening, August 2, which is entitled The Relationship – Know your bike from top to bottom and end to end. This event will be presented by the service department, and will teach guests everything they ever wanted to know about their motorcycles, but were afraid to ask. There will also be wine samples from Holyfield Winery, food from Italian Delight, as well as door prizes and a coupon for that evening.

And while you’re at it, make sure to also mark Thursday, September 6 on your calendar for the final event entitled Fashion Show - Look the part.

I’d like to thank Barry, Doris, Doug, Mike, and the entire Shawnee Cycle Plaza crew for their hospitality and for putting on such a great event!
