Readers and their Rides

Ginger Pennington & Her 2008 Big Bear Choppers Miss Behavin ProStreet

Written by  September 30, 2009

The first time I met Ginger was at the photo studio when we shot her bike for our October 2009 cover; however, the first time I saw her bike was at the Cover Bike and Cover Model Search we held at Winslow's BBQ in Kansas City, Missouri where she and some of her friends had entered their bikes in our contest. Since we decided to go with a Halloween-type theme for the cover, Ginger's orange chopper fit the bill just perfectly!
During our photo shoot I asked Ginger if I could interview her for this month's Readers & Their Rides article and she was more than happy to agree to my request.

CC: Ginger, what is your occupation?
Ginger: I've been a claims adjuster for the (same company for 32 years!

CC: Do you have hobbies other than motorcycling?
Ginger: I don’t have a lot of hobbies. If I do have spare time, I like to work outside in the yard. Otherwise, I enjoy just spending time with my family, friends and my dogs.

CC: Why do you ride?
Ginger: So I don’t have to wait for my husband! It’s nice being a driver and enjoying the freedom ahead, instead of looking at the back of his head. I like to be in control, and this gives me that freedom.

CC: How long have you been riding?
Ginger: I been riding for one year.

CC: How many bikes do you currently own?
Ginger: This is my only bike, and my husband has a 2008 Harley-Davidson Road King Screamin Eagle.

CC: What do you like most about your bike?
Ginger: ? I love the color. When I first saw this bike a year before I got it, I knew this was the one. I had decided I was going to wait until I could get the bike, and then my husband surprised me. He had a surprise party, along with the help of our friends, and bought this bike for me! It’s the one and ONLY time in my life I have been completely surprised. It was great!

CC: What is your dream bike?
Ginger: I’m riding my dream…for now.

CC: What is your most memorable riding experience?
Ginger: My first time riding. I was experiencing every emotion. I waited a year for this bike, and now I was finally riding it.

CC: Do you have a least memorable riding experience?
Ginger: None so far.

CC: What motorcycle rallies & events have you attended, and which is your favorite?
Ginger: We have gone to Sturgis, Fayetteville, Bikers for Babies and several local rallies. My favorite is Gail's 911 Ride. It’s amazing; all the participants, not just the motorcycle riders, but the fireman, police officers and everyone who is a part of that ride. It’s truly a reminder, how lucky we are to live in the great country.

CC: Do you have a favorite bike night hangout?
Ginger: FUEL. It's the best motorcycle watching and has a great outdoor patio for watching all the motorcycles arrive. We’ve met a lot of people at this location.

CC: Do you prefer riding in a group or by yourself?
Ginger: I like riding in a group, because we have some great friends to ride with.

CC: Who are some of your closest riding buddies?
Ginger: My husband Doug, Larry, Cindy, Tim, Roxanne, Rusty, Cindy, Dean, Mike and Scott.

CC: Thank you for the interview Ginger, and thank you for letting us shoot your beautiful bike for our October 2009 cover.
