Readers and their Rides

Jay Doleshal and His '02 Harley-Davidson Deuce

Written by  October 31, 2005

Jay Doleshal has been traveling the ProStar circuit for the past two years and won the Pro Street class in Noble, Oklahoma by running a consistent 8.42 ET. He is also a full-time police motorcycle instructor—what a dream job! He gets to ride a motorcycle at work, weather permitting, and also drag races. I’m envious! Jay’s wife Erin also rides with him and is very dedicated to his racing. A drag racing motorcycle cop. Humm…you might want to think twice before trying to out ride a motorcycle cop. It might be Jay!

CC: Jay, what is your occupation?
Jay: I’m motorcycle cop.

CC: Do you have any hobbies other than motorcycling?
Jay:Yes, I enjoy bird hunting, mountain biking and fishing.

CC: Why do you ride?
Jay: I enjoy the freedom and it’s relaxing. I also enjoy the performance of my bike. Another reason I ride is probably because my mom never was a fan of me riding a motorcycle.

CC: How long have you been riding?
Jay: When I was in third grade I got a mini bike and have had a bike just about ever since.

CC: What was your first bike?
Jay: It was a Honda Z-50.

CC: How many bikes have you owned?
Jay: Eight.

CC: How many bikes do you currently own?
Jay: I own two bikes.

CC: What do you like most about your Deuce?
Jay: It fits me well and I have done my own thing with it to make it different. Just like every other Harley owner!

CC: What is your dream bike?
Jay: I don't really know. Some day I would like to build a custom.

CC: What is your most memorable riding experience?
Jay: Riding down the strip in Las Vegas. The weather was perfect, the bright lights and the people who were with me.

CC: What is your least memorable riding experience?
Jay: A ride to Cassoday, Kansas when a friend of mine crashed

CC: To what motorcycle clubs and organizations do you belong?
Jay: I belong to the Professional Motorcycle Racing Association (P.M.R.A.).

CC: Which motorcycle rallies & events have you attended and which is your favorite?
Jay: I raced my Suzuki Katana at P.M.R.A. races and the Soul Brothers events. I also went to an AMA/Prostar race in Indy with five friends. My wife and I went to Laughlin, Nevada for the river run. The river run was the most fun. My wife and I took some nice rides and saw a rattlesnake.

CC: Which is your favorite bike night location?
Jay: I didn't get to go to many this year but we did make it to Shorthorns and had a good time.

CC: Do you have any tattoos?
Jay: None…chicken.

CC: Do you prefer riding in a group or by yourself?
Jay: I like to ride with a small group most of the time. It is fun to ride with friends to Topeka or St. Joe for lunch or dinner. I also like to ride to cruise nights.

CC: Who are some of your closest riding buddies?
Jay: My wife Erin, Darrel and Stephanie Fields, Rance and Jenny Quinn, Joe Fasching and the guys I work with.

CC: Just for fun, which of your riding buddies is the best rider?
Jay: Don't want to give anyone a big head.

CC: Just for fun, which or your riding buddies is the worst rider?
Jay: They are all good riders or I would not ride with them.
