Bob “Thunder” Cross

This is a photo of Bob and Tyler. A few weeks ago, Bob contacted Dave Miller, our Tech Tips writer and asked Dave if he’d consider building a bike for him. Dave jumped at the chance, and Bob already has the frame ordered and on the way. I also spoke with Bob, and he plans to use as many local motorcycle businesses as possible for rounding up his parts and accessories. Once Bob gets enough parts together and drops them off at Dave’s shop, we’ll take you through every step of the building process in our future issues. Watch out Jesse James!

CC: What is your occupation, Bob?
Bob: I’m a Union Pacific Engineer.

CC: Do you have any hobbies other than motorcycling?
Bob: Nope—just motorcycling.

CC: Why do you ride?
Bob: To escape reality.

CC: How long have you been riding?
Bob: All my life.

CC: You mean since the day you were born?
Bob: Yep!

CC: What was your first bike?
Bob: My first bike was a Honda Mini Trail.

CC: How many bikes have you owned?
Bob: I don’t know. I lost count years ago.

CC: How many bikes do you currently own?
Bob: Just one.

CC: What do you ride?
Bob: My current bike is an '02 Harley-Davidson Heritage Classic.

CC: What do you like most about your Heritage?
Bob: Its color. I’m not a purple kind of guy, but I like being different.

CC: What is your dream bike?
Bob: Redneck Engineering’s “Getting High Bad Ass” is truly is my dream bike.

CC: What is your most memorable riding experience?
Bob: Heading down the highway when a little kid in a car gives me the peace sign or thumbs up. They are our future riders. Even if the parents do not approve at the time.

CC: What is your least memorable riding experience?
Bob: Riding a wheelie down a gravel road on a CR125 and the rear tire came out from under me and I sat down at roughly 50 mph. I carried a pillow to sit on for the next few days in school.

CC: Which motorcycle rallies & events have you attended and which is your favorite?
Bob: I haven’t had a chance to go to many, but Sturgis of course.

CC: Do you have any tattoos?
Bob: I have one on my right shoulderblade. I finally convinced the wife to get more.

CC: Do you prefer riding in a group or by yourself?
Bob: It depends on where I am, who I’m with and what mood I’m in.

CC: Who are some of your closest riding buddies?
Bob: My brother-in-law, Larry who rides an '02 Fat Boy and my sister, who rides a V-Rod.

CC: Just for fun, which of your riding buddies is the best rider?
Bob: My brother-in-law, Larry, because if I didn’t say so he would shoot me.

CC: Just for fun, which of your riding buddies is the best rider?
Bob: My brother-in-law, Larry. Now he has a reason to shoot me!

CC: Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?
Bob: Keep the wind in your hair, beer in hand and the scoot ready to ride!
