Larry James – Fast & Furious!

Written by  April 30, 2004

CC: What is your occupation?

Larry: I’m a motorcycle service technician.

CC: Any hobbies other than motorcycling?

Larry: You mean like dirt bikes? Pool, RC aircraft, photography, and working in the machine shop.

CC: Why do you ride?

Larry: It's hard to explain. I love the feel of acceleration. There's nothing like going from 0 to 60 in 1 second, 0 to 180 in 7 seconds. Pretty neat stuff!

CC: How long have you been riding?

Larry: A long time, maybe 35 years.

CC: What was your first bike?

Larry: A 1965 Suzuki 80. Damn, I put a lot of miles on that bike.

CC: How many bikes have you owned?

Larry: Probably 35 or 40.

CC: How many bikes do you currently own?

Larry: 10.

CC: What is the year, make, and model of your current 'primary' bike?

Larry: It's a 2000 ZX9R Koenig Kawasaki Funny bike with a 1400cc turbo charged nitrous fed, 3 speed tranny. Bad sombitch!

CC: What do you like most about your current 'primary' bike?

Larry: It's fast. No explanation needed.

CC: What is your dream bike and why?

Larry: Larry McBride’s top fueler. It's faster!

CC: What is your most memorable riding experience?

Larry: My most memorable experience was probably falling off my first drag bike at the first Truitt and Osborn race and crossing the finish line ahead of my bike. And why, because I still beat the guy I was racing.

CC: What is your least memorable riding experience?

Larry: Probably losing a NHRA Oscar in the finals at a division 5 race to a guy from Nebraska.

CC: To what motorcycle clubs or organizations do you belong?

Larry: NHRA, PMRA, and the Motorcycle Boring Association.

CC: Which motorcycle rallies & events have you attended? Which is your favorite, and why?

Larry: I attend several motorcycle drag races every year. My favorite has to be the Truitt and Osborn race.

CC: Which is your favorite bike night location? Why?

Larry: Wednesday night at the Drag strip. Cause you get to race.

CC: How many tattoos do you have? Where are they located, which is your favorite, and why?

Larry: None, but I've got some cool scars.

CC: Who is your favorite tattoo artist?

Larry: I do them myself.

CC: Do you prefer riding in a group or by yourself?

Larry: I do a lot of dirt bike riding and if I went alone I might crash and burn and be in a hell of a mess if I was by my self.

CC: Who are some of your closest riding buddies?

Larry: John Higgins, Mark Warmington, Rod Mansaw, and Steve Beinfang.

CC: Just for fun, which of your riding buddies is the best rider? Why?

Larry: Hard to say, I ride with a pretty fast group of guys. Any one of us could beat the rest, just depends on the day.

CC: Just for fun, which or your riding buddies is the worst rider? Why?

Larry: Well, just because we like to pick on him, it's Higgins.

CC: Other facts or topics of interests you would like to share with your fellow riders?

Larry: I was going as fast as I've ever gone in my whole life, but I fell off.
