Our December cover bike is owned by Tom Schmidt, and his 2008 Harley-Davidson CVO Springer Softail was selected as the winning bike at our Cover Bike Search at the Brass Rail in Kansas City, Missouri.
Tom is from St. Joseph, Missouri, and we had the opportunity to gather more information about him and his 2002 Harley-Davidson CVO. We photographed cover model search winner Desire', on his bike for this month’s cover.

CC: Tom, what is your occupation?
Tom: I’m a construction foreman.

CC: Do you have hobbies other than motorcycling?
Tom: Yes, I enjoy playing rock n roll with my band 101 in the Shade.

CC: Why do you ride?
Tom: I love the freedom of the open road.

CC: How long have you been riding?
Tom: Since I was 12 years old.

CC: What was your first bike?
Tom: My first bike was a Honda 70 Trail Bike.

CC: How many bikes have you owned?
Tom: 11.

CC: How many bikes do you currently own?
Tom: Only my Harley-Davidson CVO.

CC: What do you like most about your CVO?
Tom: The paint.

CC: What is your dream bike?
Tom: The one I own now. I’ve always wanted a Harley-Davidson.

CC: What is your most memorable riding experience?
Tom: Needles Highway in Sturgis. The scenery is amazing.

CC: What is your least memorable riding experience?
Tom: The hailstorm in Sturgis in 2009. I had some damage to my bike.

CC: To what motorcycle clubs or organizations do you belong?
Tom: H.O.G. National and ABATE of Missouri.

CC: Which motorcycle rallies & events have you attended, and which is your favorite?
Tom: Sturgis, the Missouri H.O.G. Rally, the Lake Perry ABATE Rally, the Across the Border Run in Bedford, Iowa, the Father's Day Car & Bike Show in Stanberry, Missouri, and the Lake of the Ozarks Bikefest.

CC: What is your favorite bike night location?
Tom: The Brass Rail. It's a cool bar, plus I won 1st place and got the cover page.

CC: Tell us about your tattoos, and which is your favorite?
Tom: ? I have three. One on each arm and one on my leg. The one on my left arm is a dragon lady my nephew did freehand.

CC: Who is your favorite tattoo artist?
Tom: ? Kat Von Dee. I like the portraits she does.

CC: Do you prefer riding in a group or by yourself?
Tom: I like riding with a group because of the camaraderie.

CC: Who are some of your closest riding buddies?
Tom: Alan Schottell, Billy Reese, Melvin Silvey, Charlie Barbanio, and Steve Peterman. Steve can fix anything.
