Although the weather didn't behave all that well in October, that didn't stop riders from participating in many of the great fall rides, rallies and events, which is obvious from all the articles in this month's issue.

Yes, I know that every time you turn on the TV all you hear is how bad the economy is, how high the unemployment rate is, and all the other "woe is me" stories the press just loves to bum you out with. Although the economy may be low, and we may have the highest unemployment rate in almost 25 years at around 10 percent, if you have a job and are doing OK, there's absolutely no reason you shouldn't be out patronizing your local motorcycle dealerships and other motorcycle-friendly establishments just like you always have. Not only can you get some great deals on new motorcycles and write off your sales tax, but you'll be doing your part to help the economy and your local businesses.

If you think about it, your dollars may be just be enough to help many local motorcycle-related businesses get through the tough times so they'll be there for you once the economy straightens out. Therefore, if you're one of the 90 percent employed motorcycle enthusiasts out there, turn off the TV, get off the couch, and help out your fellow motorcycle enthusiasts and business owners!

17th Annual Ralph Wayne's Backyard Nationals - Kansas City, Missouri - For the past 17 years, Ralph Wayne has hosted the Vintage Motorcycle Backyard Nationals on the first Saturday in October, and Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, was no exception.
