Here we go again. A bill (HB 994) that would repeal the mandatory helmet law in Missouri for riders ages 21 and older has made it past the House and is now in the hands of the Senate, where similar proposals have failed in the past.
Last year, the Missouri helmet law repeal was included in a larger bill that would have allowed police to stop motorists for not wearing their seat belts. The combined measure cleared the Senate but failed in the House, and an attempt to only repeal the helmet law never cleared the Senate.

This time, along with the helmet law repeal, the House adopted a provision that calls for the Missouri Department of Transportation to fund a study evaluating the impact of repealing the helmet law for the next three years.
In December 2003 I wrote an article entitled In the Wind or Under the Helmet, in which I voiced my opinion on mandatory helmet laws. My views haven't changed since then, and as always, we welcome your input on this topic or anything else you would like to toss out on the table for discussion.
