The ride started at Coaches Eastgate Grille in Lebanon then headed north on 109 to our first stop Crestview Cemetery. The cemetery reminds us of why we hold this ride. It allows us to pay our respects for those who paid the ultimate sacrifice defending our country and our way of life.
We had the honor of being joined by a member of the Gold Star Mom’s. Gold Star Mothers are women who have lost sons or daughters in service of the United States Armed Forces. American Gold Star Mothers was founded in 1928 for mothers of those lost in WWI. We left the cemetery to travel on some of middle Tennessee’s great country backroads.
The locals are very supportive of our event with some folks sitting on their front steps waving as we went by. After a stop at the Tiki, we headed to Keller’s in Hartsville for our auction and live music with America’s Got Talent contestant Sal Gonzalez. Sal is a US Marine who served with the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines. On October 31, 2004, Sal’s vehicle was hit by an IED, killing LT Matthew D. Lynch and seriously injuring Sal and one other Marine. After more than 30 surgeries, Sal’s left leg was amputated below the knee. He uses his music to promote veterans causes like #Stop22 and Wounded Warrior.
After all was said and done, we had a great time with some great people. Thanks to all who came and supported our event. All funds collected will go to help local veterans.
Lastly, I would like to dedicate this article to our Sergeant At Arms Jeffery “BBG” Wilson, October 2, 1958 - October 21, 2020. He was a loving family man, a Veteran Brother and a friend to all. He will be missed.
