Written by  July 31, 2016

The weekend of June 11-12, 2016 saw the return of the MotoAmerica AMA/FIM North American Road Racing Championship, Round 6 of the Honda Superbike Showdown to Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama.

This is Round 6 of 9 that will crisscross the country, starting in Texas, and then proceeding to Georgia, New Jersey, Virginia, Wisconsin, Alabama, Utah, California, and wrapping up in New Jersey. They were probably wishing they were in a cooler location when they were here, because it was HOT AS HELL!!!

Really, who could be wishing to be any other place than here, at one of the most beautiful Motorsports parks in the world, complete with grass covered banks for the fans to lounge on while watching the racing action! CNN voted Barber Motorsports Park one of the top places to see, although it was still extremely HOT!

There are five MotoAmerica classes set to run in 2016: Superbike, Superstock 600, Superstock 1000, Supersport and KTM RC Cup, with all five of them running at the Honda Superbike Showdown of Alabama at the Barber Motorsports Park. This is the second year for Barber’s to get the KTM RC 390 Cup racing, with the class being open to rider’s ages 14-22. There was also a larger field competing in the Superbike & Superstock 1000.

On Sunday, the KTM RC Cup racers were first out on the track for race 2 action after the lunch break, with Anthony Mazziotto III, team Jimmy Winters Motorsports (1st), Ashton Yates – Yates Racing, Brandon (2nd), Brandon Paasch-Axcess Racing LLC (3rd), and Jody Barry- Double B Racing (4th) rounding out the winning group on the podium.

The Superstock 1000 winners were Josh Herrin-Wheels in Motion Motorsports (1st), Bobby Fong- Latus Motors Racing (2nd), and Danny Eslick- TOBC Racing taking third.

The Supersport and Superstock 600 were out on the track racing at the same time, which was both exciting and a bit confusing. All of that shook out to find JD Beach- Y.E.S/Graves/Yamaha (1st), Garrett Gerloff- Y.E.S/Graves/Yamaha (2nd), and Joe Roberts- Wheels in Motion/Meen Yamaha (3rd).

The last race of the day was the Superbikes, which had Toni Elias- Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing, all the way from Barcelona, Spain in (1st), Roger Hayden- also with Yoshimura Suzuki Racing in (2nd), Cameron Beaubier- Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha in (3rd), and Josh Hayes- also with Monster Energy/Graves/ Yamaha taking (4th).
