Patriot Guard Riders Mission at Nevada State Veterans Memorial Dedication – Las Vegas, Nevada

Written by  June 28, 2016

The Southern Nevada Patriot Guard Riders had a special mission on May 27, 2016. The Nevada State Veterans Memorial was dedicated, and the Southern Nevada Patriot Guard Riders were summoned to form a flag line for the dedication, with 2000+ Patriots in attendance. Most of the audience was filled with active duty personnel and veterans. Veterans from World War II and the present were there.

The Nellis Air Force Base Honor Guard presented the Colors. Maj. Melissa Beauchamp of the Nevada Air National Guard snag the National Anthem. Two F-15 Aircraft from Nellis AFB “buzzed” the crowd at the end of the National Anthem! They were 150 feet off the ground and had full afterburners on! It was quite the thrill for the whole crowd!

Nevada Governor Brain Sandoval spoke and dedicated the Nevada State Veterans Memorial. Gov. Sandoval stated he wants Nevada to continue to be a military and veteran friendly state.

Dan Starks (Founder of the Las Vegas Veterans Memorial Foundation/Owner of American Shooters), Mick Catron (President and Chairman of the Las Vegas Veterans Memorial Foundation/CEO of American Shooters), and the entire Las Vegas Veterans Memorial Foundation Members did a monumental job of organizing, coordinating, planning, and raising the logistics and monies needed. Thank You Las Vegas Veterans Memorial Foundation!

Douwe Blumberg was commissioned to hand-sculpt the 18 larger than life statues. He undertook a seemingly unsurmountable task (18 month time-frame) and brought it to fruition. Each statue was painstakingly and exquisitely designed. The statues portray individuals from the Revolutionary War to the present. They are definitely a sight to see! Everyone in attendance was in awe of his sculpting! Well done Mr. Blumberg!

It was a tremendous honor to be in attendance with the Southern Nevada Patriot Guard Riders for this Historic Event!

The Nevada State Veterans Memorial is located at the Grant Sawyer State Building, 555 E. Washington Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89101. If you are ever in the Las Vegas area, I highly recommend visiting the Nevada State Veterans Memorial.
