4th Annual Biker Diva Fashion Show - Shawnee, Kansas

Written by  October 31, 2015

Thursday, October 8, 2015 was the date, and Shawnee Cycle Plaza was the place for the 4th Annual Biker Diva Fashion Show. Not only did the guests get to see lots of great motorcycle clothing and accessories, but they also contributed money to benefit Susan G. Komen Greater Kansas City in the fight against breast cancer.

There was a very nice display of snack items setup in the middle of the store, and several tables were setup throughout the showroom with lots of great appetizers and desserts. Monica with Justin's Discount Spirits and Wine Emporium was there as well, offering free wine tasting, and Just Jewelry Independent Consultant Linzie Pflumm was setup near the stage with a wonderful display of amazing jewelry items.

The Shawnee Cycle Plaza crew once again magically transformed their showroom into a professional looking runway, complete with sound and lighting. Doris Sarver greeted guests as they arrived, and once it was time to get everything going, she introduced everyone to Kevin Christensen with Tucker Rocky, who told guests about some of the clothing items and products they would be seeing during the fashion show, including Roland Sands products and many others. Doris then introduced everyone to the co-emcees for the evening. First, she introduced Marissa Hitt, who is the 2015 Miss Pre-Teen Kansas, and then introduced Gary Amble, who is a fellow motorcyclist, long-time Shawnee Cycle Plaza customer, and Senior Meteorologist at KCTV5. Gary welcomed everyone, talked a little about his history with this annual event, and informed everyone that this year’s fashion show would include male models, which drew a round of whistles and applause from the audience.

Gary and Marissa then went on to introduce the models as they came out one at a time to do their runway walk and showcase all the latest fashions. Tonight’s models were Nick, Colleen, Jerry, Haley, Jessica, Tucker, Louana, Debbie, Tony, Tammy, Suzanne, Lauren, who did a great job modelling all the wonderful clothing and gear.

After the fashion show Gary handed the microphone back to Doris, who read some facts about breast cancer. Doris explained that one in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. An estimated 2,000 cases of breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in men in 2015, a case of breast cancer is diagnosed among women every two minutes, and a woman dies of breast cancer every 13 minutes in the U.S. Doris then introduced everyone to her good friend and special guest Janette Slusher, who shared with the guests a very touching and inspirational story about her journey with breast cancer and how she was able to find good among all the negativity surrounding this disease and how she was able to turn it into something joyous and inspirational.

Janette then gave the microphone back over to Doris, who read the mission statement for Susan G. Komen before having her helpers hand out donation cards. While everyone was filling out their donation cards, Doris gave a bouquet of roses to co-emcee Marissa Hitt and also gave a token of appreciation to Gary Amble. She also gave a bouquet of flowers to Janette Slusher. Next, Doris had all the models come back out to the stage and introduced them one at a time, including makeup artist Christy. She thanked them for the wonderful job they did to the fashion show a huge success.

Doris also thanked Kevin Christensen once again, as well as Linzie Pflumm with Just Jewelry who provided several jewelry items for the show, Monica with Justin’s Liquor, who provided the wine, Cycle Connections Online Motorcycle Magazine for helping promote and cover the event, Shawnee Cycle Plaza Finance Manager Hal, who provided the music, as well as Mike Sarver, Sue Cummings, and the rest of the SCP team for all of their support.

As always, we had a blast covering the event, and had an opportunity to meet some really great people. I’d like to once again thank Barry, Doris, and the entire Shawnee Cycle Plaza crew for their hospitality and for putting on another great event!

In closing, if you missed this wonderful event, or if you’d just like to take another look at the evening’s fashions, make sure to check out the 4th Annual Biker Diva Fashion Show video below.
