Z Lounge's 1st Annual Bike Night & Bike Show - Irondale, Alabama

Written by  September 27, 2015

The 1st Annual Bike Night and Bike Show fundraiser was held on August 18, 2015 at Z Lounge, which is located at the Zamora Shrine Temple Center in Irondale, Alabama.

Z Lounge managers Preston Cain, Sonny Faggard, and Al and Tammy Wortham sponsored the benefit to raise funds for the Zamora Kids Fishing Tournament, which is scheduled for October 3, 2015. The funds help insure that the kids can come and be fishermen (or fisherwomen) for the day, at no cost to them. We think that’s a pretty cool thing!

The bikers were greeted out front by the ladies, who were selling 50/50 tickets and getting the folks set up for the bike show. To determine who would take home the first place trophy for the People’s Choice Award, everyone purchased tickets to place in the holder at their favorite bike. All he money raised for the night went to the Shriner’s Kids.

Inside, Tammy was manning the bar, while the guys were out back on the grill cooking up hot dogs and hamburgers to go along with the pizza that greeted you as you entered the lounge area.

When everything was said and done, it was Mr. Chris Gafford who rode away with the People’s Choice trophy. His bike was very cool, and looked like something the Green Lantern should be riding. Mr. R.C Smith won the 50/50 draw.

We had a lot of fun, but the real winners of the night were the kids who were helped in their endeavors to commune with nature and catch some fish. This was a pretty cool event that we hope will continue to grow more and more every year. Bikers are always ready to help when it comes to raising money for kids in need. Ya gotta love ‘em!

Tommy McGee, who I’m told is set to become “Potentate” (i.e. top dog) with the Shriner’s next year, Jerry Wayne Thomas, along with Tom Gaskins and Al Wortham; Divan Shrine members, talked about the possibly of getting the huge outdoor bike night going again. We haven’t had a location in years who would welcome the hundreds of bikers it draws, so it would be nice to have a place like this. This would give the bikers a chance to do even more for the Shriner Kids.
