2014 Missouri Patriot Express Dice Run - Kansas City, Missouri

Written by  September 30, 2014

On Sunday, August 24, 2014 riders gathered at The Brass Rail Sports Bar, Restaurant, & Pool Hall in Kansas City, Missouri, for the 2014 Missouri Patriot Express Dice Run to raise money for Fisher House and Operation Military Embrace, a non-profit organization providing assistance to military families during hospitalization, illness, or injury.

Registration began 8:30 a.m., and included a biscuits and gravy breakfast, a T-shirt, and goodie bag. After a blessing of the bikes, kickstands were up at 10 a.m. for a scenic 90 mile ride that included stops at the VFW in Excelsior Springs, Missouri for a 21 gun salute, a wreath ceremony at the Higgensville Cemetery, with the final stop at Dell’s Powersports in Blue Springs, Missouri for lunch. Our good friend Carol Diaz, as well as Mark and Shelly O’Dowd were instrumental in the event once again, and announced the raffles, and high and low dice roll winners. There was also an award for the top fundraiser.

The guest speaker for the event was once again the amazing Dave Barr. Dave is an amazing motivational and inspirational speaker. In 1969, at the age of 17, Dave began his military career with the United States Marine Corps. He served on a helicopter gunship in Vietnam and was awarded 57 air medals. Leaving the Marines in 1972, Dave still felt the need to fight for a cause. He was a soldier in Israel, later in Zimbabwe/Rhodesia, and finally in South Africa. In 1981 a landmine explosion nearly killed him and resulted ultimately in the amputation of both of his legs. Showing amazing determination, Dave was eventually able to return to active duty and complete his military career. After leaving the military, he undertook a series of epic world motorcycle tours, setting two Guinness World Records in the process. He is a well-known author and motivational speaker and is a member of the A.M.A. Motorcycle Hall of Fame. More information about Dave Barr is available on his website.
