Indian Motorcycle Kansas City Grand Opening - Olathe, Kansas

Written by  August 29, 2014

On Friday, August 15 and Saturday, August 16, Indian Motorcycle Kansas City celebrated their Grand Opening, and also provided Indian motorcycle enthusiast and tire kickers alike, the opportunity to take demo rides on the new fleet of Indian motorcycles so they could feel the power of the 111 cubic inch Thunder Stroke V-Twin (1819 cc).

When pulling into the dealership, the first thing that caught my eye, was the huge Indian Demo Tour semi-truck and trailer in the parking lot. Next to the trailer was an impressive lineup of every Indian model you could ask for, including the new 2014 Indian Scout, Indian Roadmaster, Indian Chief Classic (featured on our September 2014 cover), Indian Chief Vintage, and Indian Chieftain. If you had a valid motorcycle endorsement, were at least 18 years old, a DOT helmet, eye protection, long pants, close-toed shoes, and were willing to sign a waiver, you were good to go.

Following a short safety briefing, visitors mounted up the bike of their choice, secured their helmets, and exited the parking lot for a guided tour along a nice route, so they could get a good feel for how their bike handles.

While the group was on their ride, I had the opportunity to visit with owner/operator Craig Keating, who was busy visiting with guests and making sure everyone was having a great time. Craig told me the turnout had been great, which was obvious from the full parking lot, and the fact that not one demo bike was left behind when the group pulled out of the parking lot.

The first 50 demo riders each day received a free T-shirt, and Saturday’s guests were also treated to free food from the Taco Republic Truck, and live music by the popular local band Outlaw Jim and the Whiskey Benders. There were also several vendors setup in the parking lot including Shinko Motorcycle Tires, River Road, Bell Helmets, and SPY Helmets. Because the demo signups were so busy I didn’t have the opportunity to ride and Indian that day, but you can bet I’ll be back to try one out very soon!

As most of you know, Polaris is responsible for bringing the Indian brand back to life, so the dealership also has a line of Polaris products from which to choose. I also can’t wait to check out the new 2015 Polaris Slingshot as soon as they arrive. If you haven’t seen photos or video of this exciting new 3-wheeled machine, make sure to check it out! It will look great, and make the neighbors jealous when they see one of these sitting in the driveway next to your new Indian!

A special thanks to Craig Keating and the entire crew at Indian Motorcycle Kansas City for hosting a great event, and I’m proud to welcome Indian Motorcycle to the Kansas City area!
