3rd Annual Ride for Lyla - Leeds, Alabama

Written by  July 1, 2014

In May, the Faith Riders Motorcycle Ministry of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Leeds, Alabama, hosted the 3rd annual fundraiser ride in honor of Pastor Billy Abrams granddaughter Lyla. Layla has endured many medical issues from birth, and as a result, ultimately visited various Children’s Hospitals, which left her parents in need of a place to stay so they could be near their child during treatments. This is where the Ronald McDonald house stepped in to help, and for whom this ride is benefiting.

The Ronald McDonald house puts the patient’s families up in lodging, so they can be close to their children; at no cost to the families. That’s awesome, and what a relief for so many families that must be.

Miss Lyla was on hand to watch as the 50 plus bikes gathered at Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Leeds, Alabama to start the day’s adventure. The event started with the drawing of the first “marble.” The deal was, there were different color marbles worth different amounts, and the one with the most points at the end wins. Simple enough!

After that it was off to the Veterans State Home in Pell City for a visit. A lot of the residents came out to see all the bikes and enjoy the company for a bit. The Faith Riders make the trip out there every 4th Saturday of the month, and I’m sure it’s something they all look forward to.

Everybody drew a marble, and it was time to mount up and head out on a road trip; visiting several different churches along the way. The last stop was back where it all began, at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, where the winner was declared and awarded $100. A ton of door prizes were also given away.

The Faith Riders and their wives, along with members of the church, cooked BBQ and just “boo-koos” of good home-made food and desserts. There was so much food. Great job guys!

The ride raised just shy of $2,000 for the Ronald McDonald House, which was awesome!

On the 2nd Thursday of every month, the F.A.I.T.H Riders sponsor bike night at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, and on October 10, 2014, The Faith Riders Motorcycle Ministry of Cedar Grove Baptist Church will host “Thunder at the Grove” – The Grand Finale Bike Rally of 2014. Everyone is welcome, and for more information, contact the F.A.I.T.H Riders director at: (205) 229-2136.
