7th Annual Gailapalooza at Gail's Harley-Davidson - Grandview, Missouri

Written by  May 1, 2013

Gailapalooza at Gail’s Harley-Davidson in Grandviw, Missouri, is the event that annually marks the beginning of the motorcycling season in the Midwest. The morning of April 4 started with a thick overcast and blustery winds, but the sun broke through, and conditions improved throughout the day. As the weather got better, more and more people rolled in to check out the bikes and merchandise inside the dealership as well as the more than 30 vendor booths that filled the parking lot out front. Several charities also had booths to promote upcoming rides such as the City Union Mission ride and Bikers for Babies®.

The first big attraction was an adult Easter egg hunt put on by Gail’s and 101 The Fox. Of the 120 participants, 80 were on-air call-in qualifiers with the remainder selected in a last-chance drawing at Gail’s. There were 880 plastic eggs scattered in the grassy area in front of the dealership, each containing a slip of paper with a code identifying the associated prize. The prize list included Masterbuilt electric smokehouses, Butterball indoor electric turkey fryers, car care kits, CD’s, T-shirts, cash, and more. After the prizes were distributed, five “cash egg” winners had the opportunity to have a turn in the “cash cube” to grab for flying money. The top earner collected $54.

The ride-in motorcycle show drew a variety of very nice bikes with everything from wild customs to antiques. In addition to nice plaques, Gail’s gift cards valued at $500 for first and $250 for second in two classes, Harley and non-Harley, were awarded. Winners were as follows:

1st Place – Ted Haase, 2006 Deluxe

2nd Place – David Russell, 2012 Road Glide

1st Place - MiKel Limuns, Can-Am Spyder

2nd Place – Larry Kelly, Big Bear Sled

There was also a contest for the best bike audio system with $500 cash and a $500 Gail’s gift card awarded to Donnie Houk, for his 2012 Road Glide Ultra.

Several beautiful classic autos were also on display. Providing musical entertainment for the event were Thin Ice, Knock Kneed Sally, and Lonesome Jake. Attractions for the youngsters included a balloon artist who provided them with colorful balloon animals and other shapes. As it does every year, Gailapalooza provided welcome relief from cabin fever experienced by local riders and renewed hopes for great riding weather to come. Thanks to Gail and her staff for another enjoyable event!

Special thanks go to April Meisberger from Gail’s for Easter Egg Hunt photos. Thanks also to Lori Gilgus of Cumulus Media, Dee Austin, and April for information.
