Rides, Rallies and Events Recap

MLB and SOB 2012 Eureka Springs First Ride - Eureka Springs, Arkansas

Written by  January 31, 2012

About February while hanging out at one of the bike shows in KC, MLB and SOB motorcycle clubs along with the Swiss Holiday Resort – Rodeway Inn in Eureka Springs, Arkansas decided to organize a “start of the season” ride and gathering on a weekend in April. When the leaders of the motorcycle clubs and the manager of the resort first decided to put together an early spring gathering to celebrate the beginning of the riding season, little did they know how well it would be received. The word was spread in February and soon the original resort was completely filled, and the event started spilling over to neighboring motels. News of the event soon spread to other businesses in the little town of Eureka Springs, who welcomed the group with open arms.

The groups arrived on Friday afternoon to find welcome banners on neighborhood restaurants, bars, and of course the headquarters resort. One downtown restaurant and bar even assigned dedicated wait staff that were to cater only to the group members during the weekend! Club members from Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, and Oklahoma spent Friday evening getting reacquainted and checking out the local restaurants. Saturday brought a perfect, cloudless spring day, and the groups headed out on the great riding routes around Eureka and Beaver Lake for the day with many great sights and experiences including the river crossing on the old one-lane wooden bridge. The 80-plus bikes and over 150 people returned to the headquarters resort on Saturday evening for a catered BBQ dinner and more socializing around a bonfire in the pool area of the resort. The groups went to breakfast together before spending time laughing and talking about the great times that had taken place and saying goodbyes on Sunday morning. The resounding thing heard on Sunday morning was, “We have to do this again next year!”

Well, next year is here! It is still four months until the April event date and the reservations in the group of resorts in Eureka Springs that are hosting it have already passed the size of the last event! Everyone is so looking forward to this year’s event that the headquarters resort, Rodeway Inn – Swiss Holiday Resort, sold out in mid-December, and now the 1876 Inn motel next door is about one-fourth of the way to being booked as well. The local bars and restaurants are on board again with reserved floors for the biker groups only and dedicated wait staff again. The growth of this fledgling event shows how well the biker community can join together, have a great time, go home and tell friends, and bring them back the next year with them! The event has even spread to more states now with RSVPs from Texas, Illinois, and Nebraska along with the states that were represented the first time.
