Dell's Powersports New Year’s Eve Ride 2011 - Blue Springs, Missouri

Written by  December 31, 2011

Can you believe it was 65 degrees on December 31 here in the Midwest? Call it global warming or whatever you want, but 41 riders including Stripe and I took full advantage of the warm weather by participating in this year’s Dell’s Powersports New Year’s Eve Ride.

Riders on Hondas, Harleys, and everything in between met at Dell’s Powersports in Blue Springs, Missouri around 11:30 a.m., and shortly before Noon, we headed West on 40 Highway, South on Woods Chapel Road, and East through Fleming Park/Lake Jacomo. After winding our way through the park and along the lake, we headed East on Colbern Road and then North on 7 Highway to Zarda BBQ. Stripe and I both ordered a plate of burnt ends, which was quite tasty.

During this year’s ride, participants also had the opportunity to make a donation to help pay for Amber Loulos and Clint Young’s mounting medical expenses as a result of a serious car accident they were in on Tuesday evening, December 27. At the time of this publication, both were still listed in critical condition at a local hospital.

Many of you may know Amber, who was our July 2010 cover model, and has also worked the Cycle Connections booth at several events this past year. Amber also works the parts and accessories counter at Dell’s Powersports, and at the end of the ride, we had the opportunity to talk with Mark Riggin owner of Dell’s Powersports, to see if he’d heard anything more about Amber and Clint’s condition. He told us they were both still in an induced coma and that he planned to visit the hospital again real soon to check in on them.

Mark also shot some video at the end of the ride, as everyone was pulling into Zarda BBQ, which you should also check out.

A facebook page entitled Prayers for Amber & Clint has been setup to help keep everyone updated on their condition and recovery.

On behalf of Stripe and I, and the entire Cycle Connections team, our thoughts and prayers go out to Amber and Clint for a quick and full recovery.
