17th Annual Mule Run - Kearney, Missouri

Written by  September 30, 2011

On September 10, 2011, the 17th annual Mule Run was held in Kearney, Missouri. This was my first year attending, and I’m wondering why I haven’t been before! This is an awesome event full of live music, free food and beverages, give-aways, and great people! Twenty dollars to get in made this one of the cheapest parties in Missouri!

The gates opened at noon, and I finally rolled in around 3 p.m. I was not one of the lucky ones who rode in on a bike, but that’s OK; you don’t have to ride in to have a great time! Just after I was finished setting up and breaking my friend’s brand new tent, the party kicked off with the opening ceremony, which included a 21gun salute performed by the Combat Vets Motorcycle Association, the Star Spangled Banner, and Taps.

As the day went on, the party and the crowd grew. There were around 400 people who were not afraid to get a little wet. It didn’t rain much, so those of you who were afraid of the rain, you missed out! Bands included Death Valley Wolfriders, Villains Dance, and Under the Covers. They ROCKED the stage all night.

With the music in the background, people were gathered all over the property. No matter where you were, there was always something entertaining going on, whether it was the snake at the bonfire or the dancing at the stage, or the occasional ensemble mishap, such as watching me trip over tents, taking pictures in the big red lawn chair, or hanging out at your tent people-watching. There was plenty of free stuff being thrown off the stage, which provided even more entertainment. The party concluded (for some) with an awesome fireworks display.

Sponsors include: Liberty VFW Post, Kearney VFW Post 5717, Alter Ego, River City T’s, Total Cycle Care, Dan’s Auto Works & Motorcycles, Twin City Tavern, Vulcan’s Forge, St. Joe Distribution, Moxie Bar & Grill, Worth Harley-Davidson, Kansas City Ink Tattoo’s, HardCore Customs, Blue Springs Harley-Davidson, Stables Grill, Cole Printing & Signs, Brass Rail, Party Place Liquors, Harley & Horses, and Sticks & Stones Bar & Grill. Food was provided by Bichelmeyer Meats.

A special THANK YOU to Brothers Word MC for hosting this awesome event! I look forward to Mule Run next year! Save the date: Saturday, September 8, 2012.
