Blue Knights Alabama Chapter VI - Troop 2005 Ride

Written by  June 30, 2005

On Saturday, May 21, the Blue Knights Alabama Chapter VI hosted a Troop 2005 Ride to support our troops in Iraq. Mother Nature was nice enough to donate a beautiful day for the ride.

Registration started at 10 a.m. with the ride-out scheduled for 1 p.m. departing from four different locations, Mt. Cheaha Harley-Davidson, Springville National Guard Armory, Alexander City National Guard Armory and Pelham's Heart of Dixie Harley-Davidson. The ride ended at 29 Dreams Motorcycle Resort in Vandiver. There were a lot of door prizes given away, T-shirts, hats, tool kits, knives, and a Jeff Gordon shirt I wanted! The 50/50 drawing sent some lucky person home with a few extra hundred dollars in his or her pocket. The Jeff Galey band was playing outside on the stage, where you can find them playing most weekends.

There were probably 200-300 bikes attending the ride, and we were told later by Donny Canada, President of the Alabama Chapter VI Blue Knights, that between the raffle ticket sales, registration, and the 50/50 drawing, they raised $5,150. They are now in the process of finding a broker to send the money to Iraq for the troops via debit cards. They were advised that this would be the most useful for them as they could use them to purchase much needed personal items.

We were very proud to have had the privilege of participating in the ride. We look forward to the day when this ride is not needed, but until then, we are all very grateful for the kind, charitable natures of people like the Blue Knights! The Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, Inc., is comprised of active and retired law enforcement men and women who enjoy riding motorcycles and describe themselves as a “family fraternity,” who donate time, goods and money to many charities. There are over 18,500 members worldwide with chapters overseas as well as here in the United States. For more information on the Blue Knights, you can visit www.blueknights.org.

Cycle Connections is very proud to support our troops as well as their families back here at home. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all. We hope they all return safely home very soon.

Please Ride Safe!
