7th Annual Rollin for the Ranch Charity Ride & Dice Run – Chelsea, Alabama

Written by  August 31, 2011

On Saturday, August 13, riders gathered at Rider’s Harley-Davidson in Trussville for the 7th Annual Rollin for the Ranch Charity Ride/ Dice Run to benefit the King’s Ranch. The name of the ranch has been changed to King’s Home. Only the name has changed; they still do the same great things they always have and will continue to do so. King’s Home rescues kids from abusive homes, takes in and nurtures troubled youths to give them a loving and supportive home environment, and they offer a safe environment for battered and abused mothers.

This year’s ride was in memory of Woody “Bling” Anderson, who was a big part of this event for years, Woody’s family, his wife, brother and others were on hand to show their appreciation. A couple of them even rode down from Baltimore Maryland, on crotch rockets of all things. Woody worked with Colonial Properties for many years, which is a big sponsor of this event, and he rode in every ride since the beginning. I’m sure he will be greatly missed.

John, Hope, Julie, and the rest of the crew did a really nice job pulling this ride together this year with the help of the Greater Birmingham Apartment Association, Colonial Properties, and Sherwin Williams. A special thanks goes out to Hooters and Newks sandwich shop for providing the food for the riders and to the MOB INC (Men of Birmingham in Nice Cars) who came out with all of their really cool “Lambos,” Ferraris, Camaros, etc., which were a nice treat for everyone.

There were a little less than 100 bikes in the ride this year, and only $145 was given away on the 50/50 draw, but over $23,000 was raised and a ton of goodies that had been graciously donated were given away.

The kids at the ranch always seem to really enjoy having everyone come out to visit them and show love and support for them. All of us look forward to this ride as well. It really feels good to know that together we can make a difference!

Thanks to all of you!
