Women Riders

The Inspired Tour – New York to San Francisco

Written by  June 29, 2015

I was pretty much giving up on having a column for July, and then I came across an article on the WDAF-Kansas City webpage about two very inspiring and determined ladies.

Lisa Brouwer and Kris Haase from North Dakota embarked on an18-day cross country motorcycle adventure that’s meant to inspire women to chase their dreams. Their own inspiration came from the journey of Effie Hotchkiss and her mother, Avis, who took the same route in 1915. Effie was my first Woman in Motorcycle History article published in our March 2009 issue. One hundred years later, Brouwer and Haase paid tribute to Effie’s epic ride, riding two Street Glide Specials on loan from Harley-Davidson as they retrace those steps.

Both women are experienced riders and said that by taking this trip, they wanted to show other women that no goal is too big. “Whatever their dream is, whatever they want to achieve in their life, it’s never too late to get started and give it a whirl,” Haase told WDAF.

The women started a Facebook page chronicling their adventure and a camera crew is following them for a possible documentary about the journey. They not only rode the Hotchkiss route, they did some site seeing as well. To see their journey, their videos and photos, visit their Inspired Tour Facebook page or their website.
