Our February 2011 cover bike is owned by Dave Kirkland from Blue Springs, Missouri. I’ve wanted to shoot this bike since the first time I saw it at the 2010 World of Wheels in Kansas City, Missouri. I love custom bikes that have all the right components and aren’t cluttered with unnecessary parts and accessories that have no place on a show bike of this caliber. The pure elegance and clean styling of this bike makes it an eye-catching piece of artwork. During our photo shoot I asked Dave if I could interview him for this month's issue, to which he agreed.

CC: Dave, what is your occupation?
Dave: I’m an auto body technician.

CC: Do you have hobbies other than motorcycling?
Dave: Yes, I also enjoy motorcycle restoration, home restoration and travel.

CC: Why do you ride?
Dave: To me, it’s all about the mechanical aspect of the bike.

CC: How long have you been riding?
Dave: I’ve been riding over 25 five years.

CC: What was your first bike?
Dave: It was a 1967 BSA.

CC: How many bikes have you owned?
Dave: Ten.

CC: How many bikes do you currently own?
Dave: I currently own three bikes. My 1952 Triumph Drag Bike, a 1957 Triumph TR6, and a 1963 BSA Rocket Goldstar Special.

CC: What do you like most about your 1952 Triumph Thunderbird?
Dave: That it’s an original 1960s show bike.

CC: What is your dream bike?
Dave: The Vincent Black Lightening and a Big Tank Crocker. In my opinion, these are two of the greatest motorcycles in the world.

CC: What is your most memorable riding experience?
Dave: My most memorable, although not my best riding experience was being hit by a car on my 1974 Harley-Davidson Sportster. .

CC: What is your least memorable riding experience?
Dave: Kickstarting the Sportster.

CC: What motorcycle rallies and events have you attended, and which is your favorite?
Dave: annual Ralph Waynes Backyard Nationals and the annual Vintage Motorcycle Show in the Airplane Museum at the Kansas City Downtown Airport.

CC: Do you have any tattoos?
Dave: Nope.

CC: Do you have a favorite tattoo artist?
Dave: ? Kat Von D, because she’s the bomb diggity.

CC: Do you prefer riding in a group or by yourself?
Dave: By myself; it’s complicated.

CC: Who are some of your closest riding buddies?
Dave: Kelly Lamming and Ted Mooney.

CC: Thanks for the interview Dave, and thanks for letting us shoot your Triumph for this month's cover.
