Kansas City Harley-Davidson Assembly Plant Open House

Harley Plant in Kansas City If you’re a motorcycle enthusiast, no matter what you ride, you likely have some appreciation for those who manufacture these wonderful machines. Should you live in the Kansas City area, you may not realize what a fabulous opportunity you have to see up close, a state-of-the-art motorcycle assembly process. On Friday, September 10 and Saturday, September 11, you’ll have that opportunity as the Kansas City Harley-Davidson Assembly Plant holds their annual Open House.

Each year, the Motor Company rolls out the red carpet for their big welcome party. The plant, located near Platte City, Missouri is one of two final assembly plants in the country. Here, the Sportster line, the Dyna line and the V-Rods are assembled and shipped throughout the world. The facility opens its doors for self-guided tours both days, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you visit on Friday, the production and assembly processes will be underway. Just bring your curiosity, some closed-toe shoes and proof of age (only 12 and older are admitted while the plant is in operation), and you can witness in person, the magic they create. On Saturday, plant operations will be stopped, and kids of all ages will be allowed to tour (closed-toe shoes are still required).

Perhaps the sweetest part of the event is the fleet of new model demo bikes the Motor Company brings along to show-off and share. That’s right, share! If you’ve never ridden these American made big twins, this is your chance to take one for a spin. Just bring your DOT approved helmet and your valid motorcycle license and test ride the new models available. This has historically been a very popular event, so come early and you’ll likely find it to be worth your while. Be warned, test rides of these machines can result in a change in lifestyle!

In addition to the tours and demo rides, local dealers will be present. Food vendors and related products will also be available. On Saturday morning, at 9 a.m., the National Anthem will be played, accompanied by a Marine flyover in memory of 9/11. Saturday afternoon and evening, Platte City, in conjunction with the open house, will be holding their town carnival from 4 p.m. until midnight.

Mark your calendars now for this year’s Open House. It’s an event you won’t want to miss, and who knows, maybe you’ll finally make that decision to do what you’ve always wanted to?
