This year’s run was hampered by rain, but not halted. Registration started at 4 p.m. and was still going strong when we arrived at 6:30. Don picked me up from work and we left as the clouds were getting thicker and darker. We had looked over the route we would be taking to get there and had figured on just a little over an hour. We were wrong. Traffic on Interstate 80 was almost at a standstill and the rain started coming down pretty steadily.

Carl and Patty Busse and the entire American Bikers Relief Fund (ABRF) crew had been planning and pre-registering riders for several months in anticipation of another great charity ride to help fellow bikers in need. The ABRF crew were also busy selling little rubber ducks with the intent of dumping them in the lake at the end of the run, and whoever's lucky duck crossed the finish line first would win $500 cash. Riders were also invited to paint and decorate their ducks for the best decorated duck contest, which was a hoot…or should I say a quack?

So there we were on a gloriously sunny morning on June 14, 2008, to participate in society president Goldie Arnold’s labor of love. Riders from all over the Metro were there to raise money for the Northland’s less fortunate four-legged friends. The ride was led by Gail Worth of Gail's Harley-Davidson, local radio personality Slacker, and NASCAR star Jennifer Jo Cobb was in attendance and a contributing sponsor. The rally was a 100-mile dice run through the Northland starting at Side Pockets on Englewood. A roll of the dice, a mark of the scoring sheet by an authorized representative and you’re off.

Since the ride was coming to Atlanta in a few short days I had to get on the ball and find out what the ride was all about and who the donations were going to help. I found that in June of 2004 the Victory Junction Gang Camp opened its doors for the first time in Randleman, N.C. This camp is for chronically ill children who cannot attend a regular camp. In 1999 after riding in a charity motorcycle ride for Camp Boggy Creek in Florida, Kyle and his family decided to build a camp in North Carolina. Kyle and Pattie Petty were the cornerstones in getting this camp built in honor of their son Adam.
