I have known Matt Canning for almost eight years and he has always been a great friend to my family and me. He recently showed up at my door with a 2004 Yamaha FZ6 and I was excited to see that he gotten back into motorcycling. He has grown in his career and in his love for the open road. One occasion in particular that stands out to me is the day I invited him to dinner and he brought over a honey baked ham! Matt is one of those guys who don’t cut corners when he is your friend.
With that said, I am pleased to introduce Canning:
CC: Matt, what is your occupation?
Matt: I’m a network engineer.
CC: What are your hobbies other than motorcycling?
Matt: Shooting clays, Toyota MR2s, Chiefs, off-roading, gaming, breaking the hearts of single KC women and all around debauchery.
CC: Why do you ride?
Matt: Time to myself. To get out and enjoy the landscape and weather.
CC: How long have you been riding?
Matt: Around five years.
CC: What was your first bike?
Matt: I’m riding the first bike I’ve ever owned.
CC: What do you like most about your FZ6?
Matt: It’s paid for.
CC: What is your dream bike?
Matt: A Ducati 748s. I can’t stop looking at that bike!
CC: What is your most memorable riding experience?
Matt: During a memorial ride for a good friend, Rick Catalano, it finally hit me that he was gone. I finally broke down as I knew he would have thought the site of 200+ bikes would have been awesome for him to be part of.
CC: What is your least memorable riding experience?
Matt: Last year I went with a dozen or so friends to Arkansas who were all on Harleys. On the way down to Arkansas, one of the most hillbilly lookin’ riders stands up on his bike and moons everybody behind us. 70 mph pale full moon harvested from a set of mismatched overalls made me laugh so hard I cried.
CC: Which motorcycle rallies & events have you attended and which is your favorite?
Matt: KC’s Most Wanted stunt shows. Those guys are nuckin’ futts!
CC: Do you have any tattoos?
Matt: None. I refuse to mark myself with anything that could later identify me in a court of law!
CC: Do you prefer riding in a group or by yourself?
Matt: Myself. Because I sometimes like to take a road I’ve never been down before.
CC: Who are some of your closest riding buddies?
Matt: Phil and Shayna and their Harley ridin’ friends. No, I’m still not buying a Harley, Phil.

CC: Just for fun, which of your riding buddies is the best rider?
Matt: Joe. He doesn’t feel the need to get crazy when the five bikes in front of him are standing them up on the highway.
